Interpreters Unlimited to Provide On-site Interpreting Services at NorCal DMV Locations
SAN DIEGO, CALIF., May 24, 2016—The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced its selection for contract in-person language interpretation services in northern California. Interpreters Unlimited, a language company headquartered in San Diego, was selected to provide contracted interpreters for American Sign Language (ASL) and approximately 64 spoken languages in 28 cities in the northern region of the state. The contract will be in effect June 1 through May 31, 2017.
With this contract, Interpreters Unlimited will work with the DMV to improve the communication for those with limited English proficiency, or who are Deaf, or Heard-of-Hearing. Interpretation services will help California residents to comprehend driver safety procedures, rules of the road, processes to renew identification cards, registration, and driver’s licenses.

In order to compete for the contract, companies had to be a registered small business in California, show proof of interpreter certification, experience, and other credentials, submit a request for proposal, and other requirements as noted by the DMV.
