SAN DIEGO, CALIF., July 1, 2020 – A few words with IU Vice President Shamus Sayed on the Association of Language Companies (ALC) via ALC Member Chats.
Why ALC?
As a committed leader to the advocacy efforts centered on Worker Classification, Shamus has represented the Language Service Industry in California as a proponent of legislation that protects the interests of ALC members. He has participated in educational programs to help ALC members understand the impact of these laws by sharing first-hand experiences. Shamus serves on the ALC Board of Directors where he leads the development of the annual ALC Industry Survey, a tool that is invaluable in helping LSCs plan fiscally. Further, networking is a central theme throughout ALC’s recent interview with Shamus. ALC members host Virtual Round Tables (VRTs) and offer a CEO-level chat forum on the popular WhatsApp platform.
“In ALC, we’ve seen the success of a dozen virtual roundtables held globally where Board members and key members are being resources for business owners. These CEOs are sitting around having coffee and engaged in a meaningful discussion about your business. These are your peers and they know the industry and the business more than anyone else.”
“We offer a member chat that goes off every 30 seconds. Some of it is helpful, some of it is light hearted. A member posted that he was looking for three different translators and one person responded right away that they could provide one [Yiddish]. That quick response environment-where else are you going to get it?”
Building a network of trusted allies has been a mainstay for Shamus. He maintains that the ROI on his dues investment is immeasurable due to the opportunities and partnerships he has developed.
“I could say confidently that many ALC companies have a tremendous amount of business with other ALC companies and we all trust each other with their ability to serve customers. I don’t think twice about reaching out to any one of my ALC colleagues to help and assist and if we can make some money in the process, and if they can make some money in the process, then absolutely! Between our company and other ALC companies, purely because of the relationships built from these networking events, I can say that amongst several companies there are multimillion dollars being spent. And that is a true testament to the caliber of companies and the caliber of people through the ALC and the ability to network and build relationships.”
The ALC offers advocacy, partnerships, trusted allies, networking, opportunities, and welcomes the opportunity to show you how we can build a stronger future, together.
